Volgograd - the historical Tsaritsyn - was founded in 1589 as a guard fortress in southeastern Russia to protect the Volga route and as a barrier against nomadic raids on Russian lands. The place of the fortress was chosen as a bridge between the Volga and Don rivers. The city got its name from the Tsaritsa river. In 1925 Tsaritsyn was renamed Stalingrad. The bloody Battle of Stalingrad in 1942-43 was a turning point for the entire Second World War. The bitter-salt lake Bulukhta is located a few tens of kilometers from Lake Elton. It is not as well known as the "older brothers" - the salt lakes Baskunchak and Elton. This is partly due to the fact that the water level in it is low and does not allow swimming, another reason is the remoteness from civilization and asphalt roads. The nearest settlement - Katrichev - is located 30 km from the lake, and for many kilometers around Bulukhta there are no signs, roads and people. Add extreme and salt marshes that appear on the roads in spring. But those who decide to travel to the lake will be amazed at the wild steppe nature, untouched by man. Here you can see numerous populations of ground squirrels and steppe birds. The nests of the Imperial Eagle listed in the Red Book of Russia are sometimes found very close to the road.
Another place for "wild" travelers is the ancient Indo-Iranian temple in honor of the god of fire Agni, excavated by archaeologists near the village of Trehostrovskaya. Ancient graying was found not far from the temple in the Khlebnaya and Kachalinskaya beams. In summer, numerous vacationers from Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities come to the village of Trehostrovskaya.
Among the burials of the Bronze Age, the Turtle farm in the Leninsky district of the region stands apart. The archaeological site dates back to the 3rd-1st centuries. BC e. - XIV century n. e. The found fragments of pottery belong to the funeral vessels installed during the burial in the Sarmatian time, and the red clay pottery of the Golden Horde era testifies to the presence of a 14th century settlement on this site or nearby. n. e. This archaeological site is the first monument clearly recorded on the ground, located within the borders of the Volga-Akhtuba floodplain. Previously, it was believed that the monuments in this area do not mean annual flooding.
