Lanzarote is an island about sixty kilometers long and fifteen kilometers wide. There are about three hundred volcanoes on this island. Some of them are quite active. The lava and ashes eruption in the autumn of 1730 lasted six years and covered a third of the island with a layer of basalt and ashes. Another eruption occurred in the XIX century, as a result, a chain of volcanic cones emerged in the center of the island. Lava lies at a depth of several meters and its temperature reaches several hundred degrees.
Excursions in Lanzarote are organized for tourists. Among them is a visit to the Fire Mountains National Park. On the lava field you can feel the heat coming from the ground - at a depth of a few centimeters, the temperature reaches 350 degrees. The main attraction of the island is the cave of Cueva de los Verdos, in the north of the island, under the lava fields of the Crown volcano. It is the largest lava cave in the world, and has a length of 6 kilometers. The cave was formed as a result of lava layers in sea waters. A natural tunnel with unusual outlines of walls and vaults was formed. A concert hall has been created in one of the halls of the cave.
The town of Puerto del Carmen is the largest tourist center of the island. There are a lot of hotels and restaurants here. Active nightlife. Nearby, in the village of Costa Teguise, there are presentable hotels and entertainment centers.
