Almancil is a small town in southern Portugal, which is part of the province of the Algarve, one of the most famous tourist areas of the country. It is located on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean among picturesque hills covered with pine forests. It is believed that the settlement originated in the Middle Ages, and its name comes from the Arabic word "mansil", which means "big house". The village was part of the rich emirate of Niebla for a long time and played the role of a kind of interchange station, as it was located right at the intersection of several trade routes.
The small town of Almansil cannot boast of any special sights except for the beautiful church of St. Loreno de Matos, built in the XVII century. It is considered one of the most beautiful temples in the entire province. This is a snow-white building, on the front part of which the white and blue tiles "azuzuzush" are laid out an image of the saint, in honor of whom the church was consecrated.
Almansil is a typical resort town where all conditions for a comfortable stay are created. There are many cafes and restaurants serving delicious fresh seafood dishes, several first-class golf courses, as well as clean sandy beaches where you can sunbathe almost all year round, because even in winter the air temperature here rarely drops below 10-15 degrees Celsius. In addition, you can surf or dive on the beaches, rent a variety of sports equipment.
In general, Almancil is an ideal place for a relaxing family vacation and pleasant walks. Around it there are numerous coniferous groves, fruit and citrus orchards where avocados, lemons and oranges are grown.
For shopping lovers, there are fashion boutiques that sell things of famous brands, as well as small souvenir shops of folk craftsmen. Particular attention should be paid to the ceramic products of local craftsmen.
