The Costa da Caparica is located on the southern bank of the Tahoe River, where the magnificent sandy shores stretch south for almost 30 kilometers from Caparica to Cabo Espihel. In the Costa da Caparica grows a large area of eucalyptus, pines and white acacia trees are common. On the Costa da Caparica, visit elegant restaurants where you can experience new and unusual dishes and cafes near the shore, with all the evening animation. On the cliff above the shore stands the old Capuchin Monastery, originally founded in 1558. During the summer months, you can hire a small tent on the shore or a trip on the railway of an open car that eats 10 km along the shores of the Costa da Capariki.
The nearest international airport is 15.5 km away in Lisbon, from there Costa de Caparica can be reached by bus, train and taxi.
The most convenient way to get to the southern beaches from the city is a small train that runs all summer until the end of September. Round trip will cost, depending on the distance, 4.5-7.5 EUR (2.5-4.5 EUR one way). The route has 21 stations, 19 and 20 stops are next to the nudist and most famous Portuguese gay beach.
The beaches of Costa de Caparica are famous for their snow-white fine sand, which attracts thousands of vacationers every year. The best of them - Morena and Sereyya ("Mermaid") - are surrounded by dunes with good bars. Further south, Lagoa de Albufeira is a quiet family beach, where, by the way, windsurfers actively ride. There is a club at almost every train stop, and the further south, the more chances to enjoy a quiet secluded vacation.
There are a huge number of fish dishes in the Costa da Caparica kitchen, because it is a traditional fishing village. You can find a lot of fish restaurants and bars on the streets and beaches.
Via Caparica is a cozy family restaurant with a good atmosphere and delicious food, located on the central shopping street of the city. Praia da Cabana do Pescador has a pleasant beach restaurant with live music, sofas and refreshing drinks. There are never too many people there, as everyone is in a hurry to the beach to the ocean.
A few kilometers from the city, new golf courses have been built, which are the largest golf center in the vicinity of Lisbon. The landscape of the fields is quite complex, especially near the last 9 holes, where numerous lakes are located.
Also near Costa da Caparica is the Arriba Area, a protected area of more than a thousand hectares. There are many ancient fossils of marine origin and rocks in this area, some of them are 15 million years old.
