Visit the Bon Jesus do Monte Sanctuary with a majestic staircase, climbing which you are cleansed of all sins.
The temple has the shape of a Latin cross and consists of one nave with five herbs. The main facade, decorated with columns of Ionic and Doric orders and crowned with a triangular pediment, is complemented by two bell towers with intricate bulb-shaped roofs. On the sides of the main entrance, in the niches between the columns, there are statues of the prophets Jeremiah and Isaiah. In the center, above the large window, you can see the coat of arms of King John VI, who granted the sanctuary privilege in 1822. The churchyard, also designed by Amaranti, is decorated with eight sculptures from the stage of Climbing Calvary.
In the lushly decorated interior, combining features of neoclassicism, Rococo and Baroque, the main apse, the choir, stands out. It contains a Baroque composition with the scene of the Crucifix, crowned with a canopy with figures of angels.
Braga is an unusually beautiful city, richly decorated with granite Baroque sculpture, with numerous churches and fountains. Braga, a city with 2250 years of history, is one of the oldest Christian cities, is also considered the leading center of theological research in Portugal and is proud of the title "City of Archbishops".
In the small Old Town of Braga, dozens of churches and palaces have been preserved on small streets and fountain-decorated squares.
