AMUR REGION

Administrative center : the city of Blagoveshchensk, which was founded in 1856.

Region formed : October 20, 1932.

Geographical position

The Amur Region  is one of the farthest corners of our vast country, located in the Far East, about 7 thousand km east of Moscow.

This is one of the largest constituent entities of the Russian Federation, occupying a border position along a long distance with the People's Republic of China. The border is almost 1250 kilometers long.

The size of the Amur Region ( 361,908 km²) can be compared with several European countries, for example with Germany ( 357,021 km² ).

The region borders on Yakutia in the north, Khabarovsk Territory in the east, the Jewish Autonomous Region in the southeast, China in the south and the Trans-Baikal Territory in the west. The Amur Region is divided into 20 districts. Blagoveshchensk is the only administrative center of the region of Russia located on the state border.

Blagoveshchensk and the Chinese city of Heihe are separated by the Amur River, a distance of 750 meters.

Mountainous and elevated areas occupy 60%, plains - 40% of the region's territory. The former are located mainly in the northern and middle regions. Between Zeya and Selemdzha in the west and ridge. In the east of Turan lies the Zeisko-Bureinskaya plain, its southern part is called the Middle Amur lowland. It has many shallow rounded depressions. Between Amur and Selemdzha from the south and ridge. Tukuringra-Soktakhan-Jagdy from the north is the Amuro-Zeya elevated, slightly hilly plain with heights of 300-500 m. In its eastern part, there are some low hills. The river valleys are cut deeper. The western part of the plain is composed of sandy loam and sand, so there are many ravines here, especially along the outskirts.

Amur region

In the middle and northern parts of the region, there are blocky and block-folded mountain ranges. All of them are low or medium-high, with stony placers on the tops. The highest elevation within the region is 2,312 m, in the east of the Stanovoy Range. The Stanovoy Range stretches for 800 km along the northern border in several parallel chains. The slopes are indented by the valleys of numerous rivers and are covered up to a height of 1200 m with forest, higher - a belt of dwarf cedar. To the east of the sources of the Zeya, a branch is separated from the Stanovoy ridge, directed to the southeast - ridge. Dzhugdyr. To the south, parallel to the Stanovoy Range, there is a 500-kilometer chain of medium-altitude Yankan-Tukuringra-Soktakhan-Dzhagdy ranges. The highest height in the Tukuringra ridge is 1 604 m.

Between the Stanov and Soktazhan-Dzhagdy ridge there is an intermontane boggy Upper Zeya plain. The Selemdzhinsky, Yam-Alin, Aesop and Turana ridges run along the eastern outskirts of the region. Bureinsky Ridge in the Amur Region it enters only with its southwestern spurs. In the west of the region there are many small mountain ranges - Chernysheva, South and North Dyryndinsky, Chelbaus, Urushinsky, Iltivus.

Climatic features

The climate is influenced by monsoons. Winter is cold, dry, little snow, cloudless. The average January temperature ranges from -24C in the south to -33C in the north. Summer is hot (in the south), rainy. The average July temperature is from + 21C in the south to + 18C in the north. Annual precipitation is about 850 mm. Permafrost is widespread. The growing season is 126-171 days.

Tourist opportunities

The main wealth of the region is its unique nature. There are many specially protected areas in the region, in which rare animals and birds are preserved. For example, in the area between the Selemdzha and Nora rivers, there is the Norsk Nature Reserve, which has preserved such rare species as the Far Eastern and black storks, white-tailed eagles, black and Japanese cranes. Another reserve is Khingansky, its task is to preserve natural landscapes.

Undoubtedly, nature lovers will be impressed by the Burning Mountains located in the Shimanovskiy District - a unique geomorphic formation. In this area, underground deposits of brown coal are located, which spontaneously ignited many years ago; the smoke comes out and from the side it seems that the mountains are burning.

The Amur Region will undoubtedly also attract fans of hunting and fishing: brown and black bears, wild boars, hares, elks and many other animals are found in the forests. Among river fish there are Amur sturgeon, grass carp, burbot, silver carp, etc.

For history buffs, incredible sights such as the dinosaur cemetery in Kundur await. During the construction of a section of the road in the 1990s, more than a thousand dinosaur bones, including previously unknown forms, were found. Another attraction is the Amur Pisanitsy, drawings made on stone about 10,000 years ago. It is assumed that they decorated places of worship where ancient people performed religious rituals related to hunting, family and religious rituals.

Another way to spend leisure time in the Amur Region is to take a boat ride on the Amur River, one of the ten largest rivers in the world. Cupid is navigable for almost six months.

In Blagoveshchensk, there are many testimonies of the rich history of the city and the region. For example, a monument in honor of the landing of the first explorers and the conclusion of the Aigun Treaty, restored in 1973, as well as an old temple - a former Catholic church of the early 20th century. Most of Blagoveshchensk is built up with village houses, many of which are very old. The proximity to China has an undeniable influence on the city - many establishments bear Chinese names, and a small Chinese-style toy town has been built on Novotroitskoye Highway.

Due to the fact that the region borders on China, it is possible to plan a trip with an auto-transfer to China. For example, the route "Dzhalinda - Mohe", "Blagoveshchensk - Haihe". In summer, transportation is carried out by motor ships, in the off-season - by hovercraft, and in winter - by buses on a pontoon bridge. Heihe is a free Russian-Chinese trade zone open to visa-free travel for Russians. The region hosts numerous festivals of interest to art, history and sports lovers.
